This wallpaper was designed as a part of a project with the Wallace Collection to produce an alternative guidebook to the museum.

I took inspiration from Marie Antoinette’s lavishly decorated furniture (secretaire F302), an expensive and desirable object which probably had some darker origins. The originally colourful wood surfaces would have come from France’s newly acquired colonies which were involved with the slave trade.  The notion that our desirable purchases also have less ethical origins is still very relevant today.
